UK pop warbler Ellie Goulding capped off an amazing year with a live session for Fearne Cotton’s special Christmas show on Radio 1 yesterday. Beside acoustic renditions of “Anything Could Happen” and “Figure 8″, she also performed a lovely cover of Mariah Carey‘s festive classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You”. Somewhere John Lewis are kicking themselves for not having her back with this. Listen to her version right below.
Ellie Goulding‘s sophomore effort “Halcyon” is out this week, and you should probably have it already because it’s definitely one of the strongest pop releases this year. “Anything Could Happen” was a red herring, as the album is a big step forward – bold, experimental, and bombastic, without losing the pop charms of her debut. She shows real growth and progression as an artist. At the moment, I’m all about “Only You”, “My Blood” and the massive “Figure 8″ (which has to be the next single).
Her cover of Active Child’s “Hanging On” got a wicked bass remix by London-based producer Ahadadream, which is only available on the Spotify edition. But you can now download it for free! Have a listen below.
Have you wondered how an Ellie Goulding track of her electro-folk variety would sound like with the production of Lady Gaga? Well, wonder no more, for the pop behemoth’s producer, Fernando Garibay, has done exactly that. In fact, his remix of “Lights”, with his familiar glam club beats, wouldn’t exactly sound out of place on the current US top-40 radios. It is certainly an interesting listen, and should put comparisons between the two artists to rest. Stream the new mix below, and check out more mixes, as well as her ongoing US tour dates after the jump.
Yesterday, UK pop songstress Ellie Goulding stopped by Radio 1′s Live Lounge to promote her ace new single “Lights”. Her two-song set consists of a lovely acoustic take of the song, and a surprise cover of The Knife’s “Heartbeats”, which is pure ear candy. A full-fledged acoustic album from Ellie in the future is almost a given now. I love both electro-Ellie & folk-Ellie, though, so I’m not ready to give up the former just yet. She seems so much more comfortable as a pop star now. Stream/download the live performances below.
The US edition of her stunning album “Lights” is out now. I highly recommend getting a copy if you still haven’t.
The new UK single “Lights” is also out now, with her previous Live Lounge cover, Rihanna’s “Only Girl”, as the b-side.
More on Ellie.
